How To Redirect My Documents Windows 7
Hi rlefebvre,
You lot said y'all saw the Folder Redirection Policy did not apply, did it throw an error? You lot can run a gpresult /v to see if the GPO is actually being applied. I know the share is accessible, merely brand certain information technology'southward accessible to the users who will exist redirecting to it as well.(just in case, sometimes the easiest part of the job we forget)
Besides, y'all tin check the post-obit reg primal to check where folders/redirected folders are pointing to:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Vanquish Folders

Look for folder redirection and GP in the clients effect logs. That should requite you a better picture of what is happening when the user logs in.
A successful one would look like this.
Successfully applied policy and redirected folder "Documents" to "\\emcnas\homedir$\users\xxxxx\MyDocuments\".
Redirection options=0x80009000.

The merely reason I know they are unsuccessful is considering when I go to the figurer in the my documents properties it should have the server share every bit the path. My master question is, is the group policy compatible between server 2012 r2 and server 2003?
We are in the heart of transitioning to a new server that is also running 2012 r2 simply because we seem to take less trouble when setting that up than doing integration with former servers.

It's definitely accessible to make certain of that I made the share for everyone all rights. I know that'south not "secure" but for testing sake I made it that way.

It doesnt matter what server is sharing the binder as long as it is a cifs/ntfs share since the GPO for folder redirection should be practical to users and not computers. I'm using freenas and some other nas that are not even windows computersfor user's folders . The grouping policy for folder redirection is practical to users right? binder redirection happens after the user is logged in. There is too a divergence if you are using xp or win7 as customer computers. With xp, folders are synced and are copied to the local user profile folder while windows 7 simply obviously redirects to the remote share. At to the lowest degree that was what was happening with my users.

Are y'all looking to redirect the library or simply the Documents folder? The two are not the same. Adding network locations to the Windows library features is ... wonky and generally not recommended.

Bryce, yous brought upwardly a valid concern, I did find that one time I changed to server 2012 some of the users actually got a folder where I told it to go to, but I guess if they are using the "Library" and non the actual "My documents" that could be where the disconnect is.
